Poster by Sabreen Zeinu, fifth grader at Sunrise Elementary(11/14/2024) As part of October’s National Bullying Prevention campaign, Anoka-Hennepin held its 21st annual kindness poster contest.

About the contest: This year’s theme was Kindness Takes All of Us. Students were encouraged to create a poster with that message in mind and delivered a variety of themes to spread kindness in their schools. Nearly 150 posters representing each school’s winning submissions advanced to the final balloting at the ESC on Nov. 5. Voters were asked to select the best poster for each grade level and were able to submit their votes electronically.

The big picture: The annual kindness poster contest helps create a safe and welcoming environment for students by promoting kindness and anti-bullying. The contest promotes kindness as a positive call to action to counteract the negative impact of bullying, and Anoka-Hennepin’s core values of respect, responsibility, appreciation of diversity, integrity, and compassion are the basis of kindness.

What’s next: These students will be recognized at the Jan. 27 School Board meeting and will receive a Kindle tablet from the Horace Mann Company. Winning posters will also be displayed on the district website and printed for use in school buildings across the district.
