Senators Hoffman, Newton and Abeler show support for early learning programs
(11/13/18) Last Fri., Nov. 9, Sen. John Hoffman, Sen. Jerry Newton and Sen. Jim Abeler visited Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE) classes at Coon Rapids Family Place to visit with families and staff to discuss the benefits of parent education, early learning and preschool. Participants in the ECFE classroom echoed that the benefits of parent education and preschool were invaluable, and support them in their parenting goals.
Anoka-Hennepin Community Education coordinates the Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE) and the Anoka-Hennepin Preschool programs at locations across the district. Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE) offers classes, events, playtimes and other opportunities for parents and their young children. ECFE classes and activities are designed to give families information, ideas and skills to support their child's growth and development from birth to kindergarten.
Preschool serves as an introduction to the school experience by exposing students to a comfortable and inspiring classroom environment where students learn and grow in preparation for entering kindergarten. Children gain important skills and experiences in learning to follow routines and rules; learning to get along with other children; exploring literacy, introductory reading and writing skills, math and number sense, science, art and music. The Anoka-Hennepin Schools Preschool program uses a common assessment tool to evaluate student learning, which is aligned with district-wide kindergarten-readiness benchmarks.
