Anoka HS senior planning service trip to China in honor of her late father
(4/17/15) Amy Jeffrey - Anoka High School senior, member of the Community Education youth service program at her school, and Project Power (adults with special needs program) assistant instructor - will represent Anoka-Hennepin Schools in an upcoming service trip to China in honor of her late father.
Attending "We Day" through the youth service program at her school intrigued her enough to sign on to make a difference and an international impact to continue her father's legacy of making a difference in the community. Jeffrey’s father, former Ramsey City Council Member David Jeffrey, died last May from pancreatic cancer.
“Before he passed away, he told me to do big things and follow my dreams,” Amy wrote on her GoFundMe page. “I believe that I am fulfilling my dreams and making him proud.”
Amy will be traveling to China with "Me to We," which is a division of the “Free the Children” organization. While in China, she will be teaching English to children, working on clean-water initiatives and helping to rebuild schools. She said they will also be spending a lot of time in the orphanages and bonding with the kids, getting to know what their life is like.
“It takes an enormous amount of effort to do something like this,” Anoka High School Youth Service Coordinator Eloise Hastings said. “She is just a kid who is willing to try anything … She is very positive and has a positive influence on younger students at the school. We can always count on her.”
