Kindergarten Readiness Preschool Plus class welcomed Lt. Gov. Tina Smith
(4/27/16)Anoka-Hennepin Schools was one of 74 school districts and charter schools to receive additional state funding to offer free, voluntary pre-kindergarten beginning earlier this fall. Lt. Gov. Tina Smith visited a voluntary pre-kindergarten classroom at Adams Elementary Apr. 21 to see the progress that the students have made throughout the year.
Thanks to the grant, Anoka-Hennepin Community Education and Anoka-Hennepin Schools were able to offer new preschool program, Kindergarten Readiness Preschool PLUS, which enabled the district to add a total of three additional preschool classrooms in the district this year.
- One additional classroom (two sections) was offered at Adams Elementary School.
- Two additional classrooms (four sections) was offered at Evergreen Park World Cultures Community School.
The program aims to eliminate barriers keeping children from receiving early learning opportunities by serving families with the most needs. All students attending Kindergarten Readiness Preschool PLUS (also known as Voluntary Pre-K) receive transportation to and from school and a meal, in addition to a rigorous class schedule meeting half-days, five days a week. Families are not charged tuition.
Families living in the Adams, Evergreen Park or Monroe Elementary School attendance areas, with a child four years of age by Sept. 1, 2017, are eligible to enroll now for the 2017-18 school year. The classes will follow the school district Kindergarten Readiness Preschool curriculum.
