National Parent Involvement Day is Thurs., Nov. 15

Parent Involvement Day game On Thurs., Nov. 15, the Anoka-Hennepin Schools Parent Involvement program thanks families for their support, and encourages families to learn more about how to get involved at their child's school in recognition of National Parent Involvement Day.

"When families, teaches, students and others view one another as partners in eduation, students succeed," said Liz Burgard, Anoka-Hennepin Schools Parent Involvement Coordinator. "We like to take this day to thank the adults in our community for their partnership."

Research shows that kids who have parents or family members involved in their school do better academically. Families can get involved and support their children by:

  • Providing care, safety, good nutrition and proper sleep for a child.
  • Model a positive attitude toward school and learning.
  • Help children learn through family activities.
  • Listen and talk with school staff.
  • Volunteer in schools.
  • Join activities that support students - such as Parent Teacher Organizations (PTOs), booster clubs, service groups and business partnerships.

The Anoka-Hennepin Schools Parent Involvement team invites any families or staff members to "spin" on over to the office at the Educational Service Center (2727 N. Ferry St., Anoka) between noon and 2 p.m. on Thurs., Nov. 15 to celebrate, browse books or movies at the Parent Resource Center library and enjoy coffee, cocoa and cookies.
