Registration for Anoka Children's Theatre 2018-19 production now open

Anoka Children's Theatre will present "The Little Mermaid, Jr." The Anoka Children's Theatre is a districtwide theatre program coordinated by Anoka-Hennepin Community Education. The program is open for participation to any students in grades four through eight, and  has been in existence since 1990 - performing at least one production each year. Students learn expressive use of body and voice; creative drama; and building self-esteem, self-discipline and encouraging creative thinking in a supportive and noncompetitive atmosphere.

"Theatre experiences provide kids with the opportunity to try on new skills, stretch the boundaries of their normal, and to learn to work together in an ensemble," said one of the Anoka Children's Theatre directors, Elaine Johnson. "Theatre teaches kids that they can create new characters and realities and that they have a voice and message worthy to be heard."

This year, the Anoka Children's Theatre is excited to present "The Little Mermaid, Jr." with performances running March 28-31, 2019. Anoka Children's Theatre will present "The Little Mermaid, Jr." Registration will open Fri., Nov. 16 at 9 a.m., and participating students must register no later than Fri., Dec. 7. Anoka Children's Theatre would like all students to have the opportunity to experience theatre.  In order to give everyone a chance for participation, a random drawing will take place if there are more registrations than roles.Students WHO ARE RANDOMLY SELECTED are automatically in the cast. 

Anoka Children's Theatre will hold placement auditions Jan. 22 and 23, and casting and rehearsals begin right after that, continuing through Mar. 27 in preparation for the live theatrical experience in front of up to 3,000 community members at Anoka Middle School for the Arts.

"[A] large number of Anoka Children's Theatre alumni return to the program to mentor and assist younger students - providing peer support and influence - exercising leadership and organizational skills," Johnson said. "Many of our cast members also move on to experience high school and local theatre [or] drama roles, technical roles with sound and lighting, as well as set and costuming production."Anoka Children's Theatre will present "The Little Mermaid, Jr."
