New, free workshop from Anoka-Hennepin Parent Involvement helps parents 'keep connected' and support their children as they grow.
(2/20/20) Many families are introduced to Community Education programs when their children are young, by attending Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE) programs with their new babies and toddlers. As their children grow and start school, staff have commonly heard that families wished there was more parenting and family support available as their children moved into elementary and middle school.
Join us for an interactive workshop series, "Keep Connected," developed for parents/guardians and youth (age 10-14) to help them prepare for the changes they will be facing as they enter into the teen years. "Keep Connected" is designed for engaging and strengthening parent-youth relationships during the transition into middle school and adolescence. The program was designed to strengthen family engagement by learning about positive family relationships and finding new ways to stay connected as kids grow up. Parents will gain tools to communicate and connect with their child, and meet other families with students attending middle school.
The Keep Connected workshop is open to families districtwide in four sessions:
Monday evenings from 6-8 p.m.: April 6, 13, 20 and 27
Held at Anoka Middle School of the Arts, 1523 Fifth Ave., Anoka, MN 55303
Each week, parents will spend some time learning from each other, students will explore weekly topics with other students - and at the end, familes will work together to practice what they have learned. Families will:
- Discover five keys to powerful parent-youth relationships.
- Learn practical ways to show care, support, and challenge as kids grow up.
- Try ways to share power in the family, even when it’s not comfortable.
- Explore new possibilities for kids and their future.
- Celebrate families’ journey together into the teen years.
Dinner is provided. This class is free, but registration is required. Register online. For more information and to register, visit: www.ahschools.us/keepconnected or contact Beth Berk at Beth.berk@ahschools.us or 763-506-1587.
