New Americans Academy

community services graphicMetro North Adult Basic Education is helping to host free community sessions for those not familiar with services and resources in their area. The New Americans Academy will take place over seven weeks and will feature classes on fire and police, emergency medical services, the legal system, the library, healthy eating, adult education and more.

Sessions

October 3 – Fire prevention
Learn how to stay safe in your home, meet firefighters, and see the equipment they use in an emergency.

October 10- Library and the Enitan Story
Find out what’s available at the library and get a free library card. Also, hear a story about how to advocate for victims of human trafficking and empower survivors.

October 17 – Cooking
A nutritionist from the University of Minnesota will demonstrate and share cooking technics.

October 24 – Emergency Medical Services
Learn how to help others in this first aid training.

November 7- Legal system
Learn how the law works and increase your knowledge of the county legal system.

November 14 – Law enforcementFind out how police help residents in natural disasters, medical emergencies, and provide wellness checks.

November 21 – Adult basic education
Learn English, get a high school degree or get ready for college. Meet community leaders from the African Career and Education Resource Center (ACER).
