(5/30/23) The sun was out and the Minnesota Twins were hot as they took on the Toronto Blue Jays at Target Field on Saturday, May 27.
The 9-7 win was just icing on the cake for participants in Project Power, an Anoka-Hennepin Community Education program that provides learning opportunities and activities for adults with special needs. The group was not only at the Minneapolis stadium to catch some baseball, but they were also there to perform during the seventh inning stretch.
Sporting matching Project Power t-shirts, participants went down to the field to sing “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” in front of thousands of Twins fans. The group was also featured on the jumbotron.
“It was so much fun,”said Molly Liberto, Community Education manager. “It was quite an honor to be invited and it was a great experience for all involved.”
To make the outing even more memorable, participants joined forces with students in the University of Minnesota’s music therapy program. Project Power music director Claire Klein held a joint practice for both groups before the big event.
“It was sweet to see friendships form between individuals in each of the programs,” said Nikki Tellefson, Project Power program supervisor. “We are always looking for ways to make our events more inclusive and this was a perfect opportunity.”
