(6/28/23) Three seats on the Anoka-Hennepin School Board will be up for election on Tuesday, November 7, 2023. Community members living in districts one, two and five who are interested in serving on the board must file for election between August 1 and August 15 by 5 p.m. Members serve four-year terms.

Details regarding impacted districts:

• District One includes Anoka, western Andover, western Coon Rapids and southwestern Ramsey. This seat is currently held by Erin Heers-McArdle who was elected to her first full term in 2019. She serves as the treasurer.
  
  
• District Two includes Blaine and eastern Coon Rapids. This seat is currently held by Marci Anderson, who has served on the school board since January 2008. Anderson is the current board chair and has served in that position since January 2020.
  
  
• District Five includes Brooklyn Center, Brooklyn Park, southern Coon Rapids and Fridley. The seat is currently held by Nicole Hayes, who was appointed in February 2015, and was elected to continue serving in November 2015. Hayes is currently the vice chair and has served in that position since January 2020.

School Board candidates must be eligible to vote and 21 years of age or older. Candidates must also have been a resident of the specific election district for 30 days before the general election and must not have filed for any other office. 

Persons interested in running for the board must file an Affidavit of Candidacy and pay a $2 filing fee no later than August 15 at 5 p.m. Candidate Filing Packets, which include the Affidavit form, are available on the  Anoka County Elections website. Candidates must file in person at the Anoka County Elections Office, 2100 Third Avenue, Suite 160, Anoka.

Election judges

Anoka County Elections is recruiting election judges to work the polls for the Nov. 7 Anoka-Hennepin elections. Election judges must be eligible to vote in Minnesota and able to read, write and speak English. Students 16 and 17 years old can be election judge trainees. Election judges are paid for their service, and Minnesota law requires that employers provide them with time off from work without a reduction in pay to be an election judge. All election judges are required to complete online training prior to Election Day. Interested candidates may apply online at anokacounty.us/231/Election-Judges.
