Roosevelt Middle School and McKinley Elementary School earn National Blue Ribbon Schools distinction

Blue Ribbon web(09/22/2021) – Roosevelt Middle School (RMS) and McKinley Elementary School were two of six Minnesota schools recognized Tuesday by the U.S. Department of Education as National Blue Ribbon Schools for 2021. This honor is based on the school’s overall academic performance or progress in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups.

A total of 325 schools earned the National Blue Ribbon Schools distinction nationwide. Six schools from Minnesota were recognized and Anoka-Hennepin was the only district with more than one school to receive the honor.

“As the community has come to know, Roosevelt Middle School and McKinley Elementary School are great places to learn,” said Superintendent David Law. “Now communities across the state and nation will be celebrating the success of these two schools. This recognition pays tribute to a dedicated community of students, staff and parents that play a critical role in the success of the school and this honor further confirms it. Thank you to the students, staff, and parents of Roosevelt Middle School and McKinley Elementary School for your dedication to achievement and for your continued support.”

The coveted National Blue Ribbon Schools award affirms the hard work of educators, families and communities in creating safe and welcoming schools where students master challenging and engaging content. Schools are honored in one of two performance categories, based on all student scores, student group scores and graduation rates:

Exemplary High-Performing Schools are among their state’s highest performing schools as measured by state assessments or nationally normed tests.

Exemplary Achievement Gap-Closing Schools are among their state’s highest performing schools in closing achievement gaps between a school’s student groups and all students.

“When families, students and staff work together we can accomplish great things and this is a strong example of that taking shape in our community,” Law said.

Now in its 39th year, the National Blue Ribbon Schools Program has bestowed recognition on more than 9,000 schools.
