Acting I syllabus
Course Description
In Acting I you will learn the basics of theatre, specifically as they pertain to the actor. You will work with groups ranging in size from one to five to create characters that live through you, the actor, and you will be required to demonstrate knowledge of basic theatre terminology. We will read many examples of short scenes, one act plays, and one full-length play during the trimester, and you will perform pieces from various sources. Most of these performances will require memorization.
Instructional units:
- Fairy Tales
- Full-length play
- 2-3 person scenes
- Monologues
- Improvisation/Self-awareness
Grading Policy and Instructional Units:
Informal Performances 45%
Formal Performances 40%
Written work 15%
Students are responsible for turning work in/performing on the assigned due date or making arrangements with me prior to the deadline. Late work turned in/performed before the deadline will be scored one letter grade lower. After the deadline, the score will be reduced by 50%.
Grading modifications may be made for students with IEP or 504 plans.
