Projects will be graded in a timely manner.  Missing and late work may be made up for full credit till the end of the trimester.

Philosophy of Grading

This course uses a standards-based approach to grading. Each trimester, students will be assessed on the course learning targets (objectives).

Learning Targets

  • I can create artwork that expresses an idea and demonstrates learning.
  • I can create a collection of artwork.
  • I can practice productive studio routines.

Students will also be assessed on:

Form/Composition

Craftsmanship/Presentation

Expressive Qualities

Re-Learning & Re-Assessment

Students always have the opportunity to resubmit a project or assignment for full credit if they did not earn a satisfactory grade.  Options for remediation should be discussed with the instructor of the course.

It’s not about the product….In Art class you learn how to: Solve problems, take risks, work independently, learn from others, learn from mistakes, develop responsibility for tools and equipment, communicate visually, develop hand eye coordination, follow through on long term projects, learn world history, and develop confidence in yourself as a learner/artist.

Attendance & Tardiness

If you are absent from school due to illness please see me after you return.  If you know you will be absent it is your responsibility to make arrangements with me before you go.  If it is for one day then please see me one to three days prior.  If it is for an extended period of time, please see me a week prior to your absence.

In some instances, alternative assignments may be given.

Grading Procedures:

Each assignment will have specific technical requirements and a design problem to complete.  Students will need to combine required elements along with their own idea to create an original piece of work.   Students will be provided with all project specific grading criteria prior to beginning work on an assignment.

Projects will be graded on Composition (use of space), Craftsmanship (use of material & techniques), and Expressive Qualities (problem solving, creativity, and risk taking). Grading sheets will provide the needed parameters for the assignment as well as include a required self-evaluation and reflection for the project.

Grades will be calculated according to the following scale:

            A       90-100%

            B        80-89%

            C       70-79%

            D       60-69%

            F        0-59%

All major projects assigned must be completed in order to pass this class.

All assignments and projects will have due dates.  On the project’s due date, students will need to turn in both the evaluation/reflection sheet and project for full credit.  Students handing their work in on time, regardless of the assignment’s completion, will be allowed to rework a project, on their own time, for a new grade if they are not happy with their first grade.

Electronic Devices

Cell phones and digital music players have a place in today’s society. Unfortunately, they are a distraction to the learning environment.  All devices need to be face down on the table during class.  If you choose to use these during class when instruction is occurring, and are not paying attention to demo’s or lectures, they will not be repeated or redone. Therefore, when instruction is missed it is the student’s responsibility to make it up. This may include making up a demo or lecture on the student’s time or asking a classmate for help.

Please Pay Attention, your grade Depends on it!!!!

***Safety***

Students will use good judgment when using the equipment on any project and use a Safety First mindset.  Being unsafe in this class may result in a referral and or disciplinary action.

No student should be bullied or harassed.  If this behavior is seen or reported this will result in a referral to the office.
