(07/09/2021) With the end of the 2020-21 school year in the past, students, parents/guardians and the community have noticed various construction projects throughout the school year at a number of Anoka-Hennepin schools.

The projects are all part of phase two of the Fit for the Future plan, and many are scheduled to be completed before the start of the 2021-22 school year.

Take a look at the work being done:

• Andover High School: Phase two construction included an outdoor adventures classroom which was finished last fall in time for classes to begin. The new fitness area was completed and was turned over to the building for full use in March. The new gymnasium is waiting on the installation of the wood floor and is on schedule for completion by the beginning of the 2021-22 school year.
• Anoka Middle School for the Arts: Construction began at both campuses in the spring of 2020. At the Washington campus, the classroom addition is nearly completed and the portable was removed in late June to clear space for work on the new gymnasium. The cafeteria remodeling will begin at the same time as the gymnasium construction. At the Fred Moore campus, the administrative offices, cafeteria and kitchen are near completion and will soon begin receiving equipment and furniture. North side additions have begun. The remodeling of the office spaces and varied classrooms will also begin soon.
• Blaine High School: New offices and classrooms are near completion and are waiting on HVAC systems to be finished. The fitness area and gyms projects are moving along and scheduled for completion for the fall of 2021. The entire project is scheduled for completion by the beginning of the 2021-22 school year.
• Champlin-Brooklyn Park Academy (CBPA): The classroom addition, media center, cafeteria and gymnasium expansions are nearly complete and are on track to open for the 2021-22 school year. This expansion will allow Jackson Middle School to reclaim a number of classrooms that CBPA has been using.
• Coon Rapids High School: This project is also nearing completion for the start of the 2021-22 school year. The activities entrance on the south side of the school which includes guidance offices and the connection to the new main entrance is getting some final touches. The old main office is being transitioned to biomedical classrooms and the old guidance is being converted to additional classrooms.
• River Trail Learning Center at L.O. Jacob: Classroom additions were constructed and site work, low voltage work and minor remodeling have yet to be completed. This project will be completed by the beginning of the 2021-22 school year.

The Fit for the Future plan, which was backed by votes in 2017 when the community approved a request for new funding to make the plan happen, promised to create safe and secure learning environments by removing all portable classrooms across the district, constructed additional schools and classroom space, provide solutions for maintaining quality schools at every building in the district, and address class sizes at all levels.

All district schools will also see a number of science, media center, and special education improvements by the end of the 2022-23 school year as part of the Fit for the Future plan.
