• WEB is a mentorship program that allows 8th grade students to mentor incoming 6th grade students and help them with the transition to middle school. AMSA has a unique opportunity with two campuses, so we have created a program that allows our 8th grade students to mentor incoming 7th graders to our Fred Moore campus.

The goal of this program is to empower our strongest 8th grade student leaders to make a positive impact on their school. These students show strength in their academics, are kind and welcoming to all students at our school, and serve as role models to their peers. WEB recognizes and rewards these students, while providing them with opportunities and guidance to practice their leadership skills in preparation for high school and beyond.

WEB students participate in a variety of activities throughout the school year. WEB leaders get to be in Connections together so that they can collaborate on projects and work together to prepare for their classroom visits. Once a month WEB leaders join a few of their peers and visit their 7th grade partner classroom to assist in the Character Strong learning that all AMSA students participate in during their Connections class. Additionally, WEB leaders get to participate in fun activities like helping plan spirit weeks, building relationships with students in our various Special Education programs through dance parties, volunteering to give back to the community, and attending several field trips that encourage community involvement and celebrating accomplishments.

Students who are recommended to WEB will be given an invite to our Spring Fling, which takes place on Friday, February 23rd, in order to hear more about the program and receive an application. The students will need to have at least a 3.0 GPA, minimal tardiness/absences to school/class, and no patterns of behavior referrals. The student will also demonstrate the kindness and leadership skills outlined above. To become a WEB leader, students will need to apply and have two teachers sign off on their recommendation. Additionally, students will need a parent/guardian signature to confirm they can attend the three mandatory days which are the mornings of August 19th-21st this summer, during which time students will receive training and support incoming 7th graders.

The WEB application is due March 1st in the Administration Office. Students will hear if they have been accepted into the WEB program prior to Spring Break.
