Community review and comment process begins for Phase 2 budget reductions and realignment process

(09/24/2024) The process to determine a solution to address a $21 million budget reduction gap facing Anoka-Hennepin Schools took an important step forward with a draft recommendations presented at the Monday, Sept. 23 Anoka-Hennepin School Board Meeting.

What is special education?

The Anoka-Hennepin Special Education department is a team of specialized professionals dedicated to assuring "a free, appropriate public education in the least restrictive environment." Our Special Education department serves a little over 6,000 children who range in age from birth through 21.

Each one of our schools serve students with special needs. Most students are served in their neighborhood schools and every effort is made to serve them in the regular classroom setting. For students with unique needs, we have set up specialty programs in various schools across the district to meet these needs.
