• Volunteer opportunities

Volunteer Services is coordinated by Anoka-Hennepin Parent Involvement, a Community Education program. Anoka-Hennepin Schools are grateful that each year, over 10,000 dedicated volunteers contribute thousands of hours of their time, energy and talents to support our schools, students and staff.

Each elementary, middle and high school is assigned a Volunteer Service Coordinator (VSC) to coordinate volunteer work. View the VSC directory to contact a school of your choice.

    How to volunteer

Volunteers may contact the school district volunteer services office to be assigned to a school with specific needs, or they may volunteer at a school of their choice.

    All volunteers must complete:

    • An online volunteer application for each school where they wish to volunteer
-The online application needs to be completed each school year and to begin the application process, click here to find your desired school.
-Use the Volunteer Application Instructions for assistance in completing the form.

    • An online criminal record history release (CRHR) form
-Once you have completed the application, you will be directed to complete the CRHR. As part of the process, Anoka-Hennepin Schools must obtain information and permission to conduct a background check on your criminal record history through Trusted Employees. If you have any questions, please contact Trusted Employees at 1-888-389-4023 or your school's volunteer services coordinator.

Once you have completed the volunteer application and CRHR, your school's volunteer services coordinator will send you an email letting you know you are approved to begin volunteering. If you need assistance completing either form, contact the volunteer coordinator at your school or the district's volunteer services supervisor.

  • Note from the Volunteer Coordinator:

Welcome back to the 2019-2020 school year!  Don't forget to complete the Crooked Lake volunteer application and criminal history release form for this school year.  Links for both can be found on the volunteer overview page.  You need to complete both forms each school year.  Don't delay - complete the forms and start volunteering at Crooked Lake today!

    • Morning Greeter:  We are in need of a volunteer on Thursday mornings from 8:45am - 9:15am to greet all the incoming visitors and volunteers at the beginning of the school day.  You will be stationed by the front door, just outside the office, and will make sure all visitors and volunteers sign in and out, and are directed to the right place!  Contact me at victoria.christiansen@ahschools.us to learn more or volunteer.
    • Workroom:  We are in need of workroom volunteers, any day, at the time of your choosing within the school day.  You will work on copying, laminating, cutting, displaying, or whatever other projects are waiting to be done.  Contact me at victoria.christiansen@ahschools.us to learn more or volunteer.
    • Box Tops:  Remember to save your Box Tops for a collection during the winter!

    Upcoming Opportunities

    • Challenge Reading:  Challenge Reading is one of the student talent development activities we can offer to students in each grade.  Small groups of students (usually 6-10) will read the same book during a prescribed time frame and meet to discuss the reading.  Challenge Reading groups meet with the students once a week for an hour outside of school hours (either before or after school).  Volunteers can pick the day and time to meet, and can determine how long the group will meet (typically 6 weeks).  Skills needed for leaders are an enthusiasm for reading and willingness to share that with students.  Training is provided and will be held in Anoka at the district office.  Please click on the link to see what dates(s) and time the training will be held (you only have to attend one training):  Challenge Reading Link

    • Math Plus:  Math Plus is a math talent & development program offered to select students in grades K-5.  Math Plus is aimed to provide additional, ongoing mathematical experiences for students who enjoy problem solving situations, show persistence in challenging activities and have a high level of interest in math at home and school.  Leaders of Math Plus will meet with a small group of students (6-10 to a group) once a week for one hour outside of school hours (either before of after school) to work on fun math activities.  Training is provided and will be held in Anoka at the district office.  Please click on the link ti see what dates(s) and time the training will be held (you only have to attend one training):  Math Plus Link
