District schools offer gratitude, show thankfulness, as holiday approaches

Gratitude events (11/27/19) Just before Anoka-Hennepin students embarked on their Thanksgiving break, many schools across the district took time to show gratitude and offer thanks.

At Lincoln, Franklin and Sand Creek elementary schools, students created notes identifying what they’re thankful for, and then as schools, posted them on large “gratitude walls.” Meanwhile, at Oxbow Creek and Hoover elementary schools, students and staff held food drives at their schools. See photos from around the district.

Other schools went a more unique route. University Avenue Elementary School hosted its first-ever Turkey Bingo, where when students earned a bingo, they “gobbled down the hallway to pick a prize, and then gobbled back to the classroom.” Anoka Middle School for the Arts, and its band directors, held a bake-off again this year, that “kids went all out for,” according to school leaders.

In one way or another, just about every school in the district took advantage of the week to program some kind of thankfulness or gratitude lessons.

Just a reminder, students don’t have school again until Wed., Dec. 4 due to the holiday and a couple of grading and staff development days. From everyone at Anoka-Hennepin, have a wonderful Thanksgiving break, and we all look forward to seeing students again next week.
