Romaine lettuce removed from school meals temporarily
(11/25/2019) The Anoka-Hennepin School District has removed all romaine lettuce from the menu in response to a nationwide e-coli outbreak and a recommendation from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
Until a substitute can be identified, Anoka-Hennepin will not serve salads or offer lettuce on any menu items. Minnesota has not reported any cases of illness as a result of safety concerns with romaine lettuce. The move to ban lettuce is made as a preventative measure in accordance with guidance from the federal agencies that people across the nation should not eat romaine lettuce until more is known about the source of the contaminated lettuce and the status of the outbreak.
