Ramsey Elementary participates in the Leader in Me program, which is an evidence-based, comprehensive model that builds leadership and life skills in students, creates a high-trust school culture, and lays the foundation for sustained academic achievement. The program incorporates Franklin Covey leadership content, with origins from the two best-selling books, “7 Habits of Highly Effective People,” and “4 Disciplines of Execution.”

The annual school event offers the students a chance to display their leadership skills through interactive and engaging projects and activities. The day also allowed students to sign up to showcase a talent (musical, dancing, gymnastics) in the main entrance while families entered the building.

Themes for each grade level were:

  • Kindergarten - Musical performance and certificates for completing kindergarten.
  • 1st grade - Discussion and activities around the 7 Habits, a learning tool within the program.
  • 2nd grade - Musical performance and classroom activity.
  • 3rd grade - Discussion and activities around the 7 Habits.
  • 4th grade - Displayed research of their dream career and the leadership skills they will need to be successful.
  • 5th grade - Participated in a wax museum where the students did research on a famous person and dressed up like them and prepared a short speech about their life.

University Avenue Elementary - Aerospace, Children's Engineering and Science piloted the Leader in Me program for Anoka-Hennepin in 2018-19 and also conducted a leadership day on May 25.
