District opens doors at Two Rivers Transition Program at Franklin
(09/04/2024) Staff are settling in at Two Rivers Transition Program at Franklin, which welcomed its first class of students Sept. 3, 2024.
The new program is a merger of two special education transition programs in the district, Bridges and Pathways, which were formerly located at leased spaces in Andover and Coon Rapids. The re-purposing of Franklin Elementary School as a transition program for special education students ages 18-22 will provide the district with budget, resource and staff efficiencies with the merging of the two programs.
Utilizing the space at Franklin preserves the long-standing traditions and history of the district, as the oldest school facility in the Anoka-Hennepin School District, open 151 years prior to closing upon completion of the 2022-23 school year.
The re-purposing of the school as a special education program highlights the district’s commitment to providing special education services to students with disabilities.
Two Rivers Transition Program at Franklin will offer a functional and vocational curriculum with a focus on the acquisition of skills to promote increased independence in the community and a successful transition from high school to adult life. Staff work with students and their families to provide experiences and learning that will provide the foundation for students to have meaningful and fulfilling adult lives as individuals, family members, employees and citizens.
