(4/12/2024) Anoka-Hennepin Superintendent Cory McIntyre has facilitated conversations with students at district high schools throughout the 2023-24 school year and on April 9, visited the district’s COMPASS program. 

The Anoka-Hennepin COMPASS programs help meet students' unique learning and behavior needs. The goals of the programs are to facilitate students’ academic progress, to provide support and guidance, and to increase students’ social-emotional skills to help set them up for success.

Superintendent McIntyre values student voice in decision-making and ensures the district provides a safe, welcoming, positive school environment. 

During the hour-long sessions, McIntyre and other school district administrators want to hear what the high school experience is like from the student perspective and learn ways to improve programming.

Associate Superintendent for high schools Dr. Josh Delich also attended the meeting along with Beck Brodeur, associate superintendent for middle schools and student services; director of student services Nate Manaen; and director of secondary curriculum and instruction Nichole Rens also attended the discussion to hear from students.

Students discussed things they are proud of about attending COMPASS and shared that they appreciate how teachers help their students and the way that students and staff can make positive connections. Students also shared that staff take the time to get to know their students as a person and listen to them.

Superintendent McIntyre and district leaders have met with students from Andover, Anoka, Blaine, Champlin Park, Coon Rapids high schools and the Secondary Technical Education Program and COMPASS. The final roundtable discussion will be held at Anoka-Hennepin Technical High School at a later date.
