Physical Science 9 A/B
- Credit: Two trimesters = one credit
- Major outcomes: Knowledge of basic concepts related to force, motion and energy; knowledge of the structure of matter; apply understandings about matter and energy to earth systems; radioactivity; history and nature of science
Chemistry A/B
- Prerequisite/selection process: Physical Science 9, Chemistry recommended prior to Biology
- Intended audience: Grades 10
- Credit: Two trimesters = one credit
- Major outcomes: This chemistry course is designed to meet the needs of the student who plans to continue taking science courses or take a college chemistry class. The course will cover important laboratory and research skills. Additionally, you will learn about chemical and physical properties of matter. Chemistry is required to graduate.
Biology A/B
- Prerequisite/selection process: Physical Science 9, Chemistry recommended prior to Biology
- Intended audience: Grades 11
- Credit: Two trimesters = one credit
- Major outcomes: The course begins with an introduction to the nature of science and biology, including the major themes of structure and function, matter and energy flow, systems, and interconnectedness of life. Students then apply those themes to the structure and function of the cell, cellular metabolism, and biogeochemical cycles. Building on this foundation, students explore the connections and interactions between living things by studying genetics, ecosystems and natural selection, and evolution. The course ends with an applied look at human biology.
