Dorothy Olsen, principal of Madison Elementary, to retire at the end of the 2023-24 school year
(01/17/2024) Madison Elementary School Principal Dorothy Olsen announced her retirement from the Anoka-Hennepin School District at the end of the 2023-24 school year.
Olsen spent most of her career in the Anoka-Hennepin School District - serving students for 45 years since 1979. Olsen taught at an elementary school in Iowa before coming to Anoka-Hennepin. At the start of her time in the district, Olson primarily taught third-grade students for 17 combined years at L.O. Jacob, Crooked Lake and Andover Elementary schools. She served as an administrative intern at Andover Elementary prior to her role as an assistant principal at Andover Elementary. Olsen was named principal of Andover Elementary for the 1997-98 school year and worked there until 2010, when she was named principal of Madison Elementary School.
Olsen has had a positive impact on thousands of Anoka-Hennepin students and has done an outstanding job at Madison, leaving the school in a good position for the next leader.
The district will work hard to find a principal who will be a good fit for Madison Elementary in the weeks ahead, which will include parent/guardian involvement in the selection process. Additional information on this feedback opportunity will be shared soon. The district plans to select a new principal who is expected to begin their role this fall, in time for the 2024-25 school year.
