Newton's Laws of Motion
----------------------------------------------------------------The school year for the Oak View Tech-Ed 7 course will start with an engineering/transportation activity that will reinforce technical reading skills as the students research, build and test fly a solid fuel rocket. The students will begin to explore the engineering/design process & graphic design topics through the use of computer graphics software. Each student will gain computer design skills at they learn how to manipulate images to design a 3-layer clock that they will make out of wood. The middle of the school year includes safety instruction on woodworking machinery such as bandsaw, scroll saw, drill press, and various sanding machines that the student will use to product their unique clock project. After the parts are machined and painted, students will assemble the parts into a functioning clock that they can brin ghome and keep.Students will spend the final third of the school year learning new software to create 3-D CADD (computer aided drafting & design). Each student will be able to take home an actual 3-D printed object that was made from their computer design using one of our 2 new Affinity 3-D printer units. objects will be created using the new 3-D printer units. The school year will wrap up with the students learning more about graphic design and production using various print media such as wood plaque design using our laser engraver and dye sublimation objects using our new heat transfer equipment. This is a very hands-on course and active participation is expected for all students to be successful in creating products & artifacts that they are proud to say "I made this!"------------------------------------------------------------------Angry Bird / Penguin assignment
Each student will share a computer with a partner during the graphic design activities during the last half of 3rd trimester. They will each chose 1 of the 2 tutorial activities listed here to learn how to use more design tools within the Inksacape software to create a graphic design image. (this is the same software that we used briefly during 1st trimester for students to design their 3-layer clock projects)One partner should click on the YouTube link below to create a "Penguin" design while the other partner follows along and learn about the Inkscape tools. Both students are responsible for taking detailed notes as they learn about how to use the drawing tools in InkScape.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IlpTaGVazJ8
Then the 2nd partner will take turns using the computer to click on the YouTube link below to create an "Angry Birds" design while the first partner follows along and learn about the Inkscape tools. Again, both students are responsible for taking detailed notes as they learn about how to use the drawing tools in InkScape. Both partners will be graded individually but will need to share the computer time during class.------------------------------------------------------------------Text Special Effects
10 Things About Me assignment
Later in the trimester, Mr Keeney's 7th Grade Tech-Ed students should work with their partner on the computer using the Inkscape software for an activity titled "10 things about me". Each student will create a single sheet of paper with at least 10 different text effects (as described throughout the video). Here are a few links to some brief YouTube video showing several text effects that students have not learned about yet:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zkNXjhg_11Y
The following tutorials do not show as many options, but they show some different options for creating interesting text effects:xThis activity will give students ideas of some of the special effects they can add to any words/numbers that they plan to incorporate into their metal dogtag project.
