Youth activities and classes
Anoka-Hennepin Community Education provides fun activities and learning opportunities for children, right in your own backyard. The Community Schools program is dedicated to student success by providing quality programs year-round in safe, accessible environments to enhance the positive growth of youth.

Programs are available for children ages three to 14 years of age, including:- Arts and crafts
- Athletics, sports and recreation
- Aquatics, swimming lessons and open swim
- Science, technology, engineering and math (STEM)
- Language and performing arts
- Field trips
Each elementary and middle school in the Anoka-Hennepin School District has a Community Schools office which coordinates a wide variety of courses, clubs, camps and clinics to enhance your child's academic and social experiences while away from school. Families are welcome to enroll in enrichment opportunities offered at their child's school or at any school, districtwide. Activities are offered after-school, in the evening and on the weekend.

Aquatics and swimming lessons
Anoka-Hennepin Community Education coordinates aquatics and swimming lessons at Roosevelt Community Pool in Blaine. A variety of opportunities are available for youth:
- Open swim: Roosevelt Community Pool hosts recreational open swim opportunities in which diving boards, swim toys and lap lanes are available for swimmers of all ages.
- Parent/child swimming lessons: Parents and children (ages 6 months up to 5 years of age) learn how to swim together through fun activities which will help children feel comfortable in the water and build a foundation of basic aquatic and water safety skills.
- Preschool swimming lessons: Children ages 3 and 4 years of age can enroll in swimming lessons based on their comfort level.
- Youth swimming lessons: Classes are available for youth ages 5 to 17 years of age of varying skill levels.
- Pool rental: Anoka-Hennepin Schools' pools are available to rent for parties and special events.
- Jobs and lifeguard certification: Aquatic jobs are fun and flexible. Certification and training is offered through community education.

Preschool enrichment
Community Schools offers enrichment activities, athletics and parent/child classes for children ages three to five. These classes are designed to encourage participation and independence in a class or team setting. Many families enjoy enrolling children in Community Schools classes and activities to gauge a child's interest in a wide range of activities.

Classes are held at various Anoka-Hennepin elementary schools across the school district, which also helps introduce children to a school setting in preparation for kindergarten and beyond.Most classes are published in the Early Childhood Family Education "Families" catalog three times a year, but all classes available may be viewed anytime on the Anoka-Hennepin Community Education online registration system.

Middle school enrichment
Middle school students are encouraged to get involved in extra-curricular activities and discover community education! Participating in extra-curricular activities and athletic programs is a great way for students to engage in their school community as they meet friends and learn new things.Register online: Browse middle school classes and activities.
Community education offers a wide variety of unique activities in the evening, on the weekend and after-school - designed for teens - to enhance their academic and social experience:

Middle school athletics
Middle school athletic programs are coordinated by Anoka-Hennepin Community Education. Sports are supervised and led by certified coaches, licensed teachers and/or knowledgeable staff who emphasize skill development, participation, teamwork, leadership, social growth, sportsmanship and respect for others. How to register
For your convenience, the Community Schools program offers multiple registration options:
- Online: Register for activities and classes online using a Visa, MasterCard or Discover card. It's convenient, secure and available 24-hours a day.
- Mail-in or drop-off: Participants may pay with a personal check, cash or credit card. Make checks payable to Anoka-Hennepin ISD #11.
- School year: Registrations may be mailed to or dropped off at the location that the activity or class is being held.
- Summer: Registrations may be mailed to or dropped off at the main Community Education office, located at 2727 N. Ferry St., Anoka, MN 55303.
If you need assistance with online registration or have questions regarding a specific class:- School-year: Contact the Community Education office of the school at which the class is being offered.
- Summer: Call the summer Community Schools office at 763-506-5312.

Payment
Participants are enrolled in the class upon receipt of registration and payment. Registrations are not complete without payment. A registration confirmation will be emailed to you if an email address is provided. Classes are filled on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Cancellations and refunds
Customer-initiated cancellations made at least five business days before the class is scheduled to start may qualify for a refund less $10. Customer-initiated cancellations made less than five business days before the class is scheduled to start are not eligible for a refund. Activities with low enrollment may be cancelled, in which participants will be notified and payment refunded.

Waiting lists
If a class is full at the time of your registration, you may request to be placed on a waiting list. You will not be charged unless class space becomes available, in which case you will be notified by phone or email.

Fee assistance and scholarships
Community Education strives to make classes and activities accessible to all participants by offering scholarships and fee assistance to those who qualify.
How to apply: Families who qualify for free or reduced-price meals may request fee assistance to reduce the cost of Community Education activities and classes. Eligible families will receive a 50 percent discount.
Call the Community Schools of the school or site that is offering the class/activity that you would like your child to participate in to apply.

Inclement weather
All activities and classes that are cancelled due to school closures or inclement weather will not be rescheduled. Credits are not issued for cancellations due to school closings and inclement weather conditions.
- School-year: Community Education activities and classes will be cancelled if Anoka-Hennepin Schools are closed due to inclement weather.
- Summer: The decision to cancel activities and classes will be made by the class instructors at the class location just prior to class time.

Accommodation requests
Community Education welcomes participants of all abilities. People with disabilities registering for community education programs may request reasonable accommodates with advance notice. To request an accommodate, please write your accommodation needs on the registration form. This document will be provided in alternate formats within three-days notice. Please contact your school Community Education office with your request.
