Support at University Avenue - Title I Information

Title I school teams meet with families each year to determine the best ways to work together to make sure all students get the individual support they need to reach and exceed grade level standards. The families and staff at University Avenue annually discuss, review and revise a Title I Family-School Compact - which is a jointly developed agreement.

In the Classroom
Teachers and support staff at University Avenue Elementary School ACES develop goals to support student learning through the following:
- All staff will use a collaborative approach towards meeting the needs of all students with a focus on essential learning and data.
- As a magnet school our students learn through inquiry, collaboration, technology, leadership, and experiential learning through an Aerospace Lens.
- Each student sets and tracks personal learning goals and will participate in Leader in Me leadership learning opportunities.
- All students have access to daily reading and math interventions.
At Home
The school community will partner with families in providing resources on how to support student growth in reading and math at home.
- K-2 Baggie Books sent home daily.
- Read daily with your child or have them read independently. Students will track their minutes.
- Math Madness – Students complete monthly containing grade level specific math activities and return the calendar to school at the end of the month.
- Ask your child about their Learning and Academic Goals at UAE.
- Attend Family Nights with your child.

What is Title I funding?
Title I is a federally funded program that is part of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). The goal of this law is to help all students meet grade level expectations in reading and math as written in the Minnesota state standards. Our school has extra reading and math intervention teachers who can help the students who are performing below grade level in reading and/or math. This is done to be fair and equitable for all students.
The elementary schools which have over 40% of their students who get free and reduced priced meals receive Title I dollars to help all the students in the school. We are a Title I Schoolwide school, and so we write goals each year to meet the needs of our school. These goals are written with staff, family, and student voices. The resources and money that come from Title I are used to meet those goals and support student success.
You may be able to help increase the funding that your school receives. If you believe that your family income may be within the guidelines for the program, you may view the application online, request an application from your school or from the school district's child nutrition program by calling 763-506-1240.

Title I targeted assistance schools

Title I schools [non-public]
Eligible private schools located within the geographic attendance boundaries of the Anoka-Hennepin School District are given the option of participating in equitable services for private school students and staff under the Elementary Secondary Education Act (ESEA). Under ESEA school districts are required to provide eligible children attending private elementary and secondary schools, their teachers and their families with services or other benefits that are equitable to those provided to eligible public school children, their teachers, and their families. Services, not funding, are provided by the district to eligible students, their families, and staff at the nonpublic school sites. Anoka-Hennepin currently provides services to two nonpublic schools.
Anoka-Hennepin provides services in three areas under ESEA:
Title I, Part A
These are educational services that supplement students’ education at the private school so that all children have a fair, equal, and significant opportunity to obtain a high-quality education. Generally, to qualify for assistance under Title I, a student must reside within the attendance area of a participating public school located in a low-income area and be failing, or at risk of failing, to meet student academic achievement standards.
- The following non-public schools within the Anoka-Hennepin attendance boundaries qualify and accept Title I funding: Epiphany and St. Stephen's Catholic Schools.

- To know the qualifications of your child's teacher.
- To know when your child has a substitute teacher for more than four weeks and the qualification of the substitute teacher.
- To expect regular communication with your school in a language and format that you can understand.
- To work with other parents and staff to jointly develop, and provide input on the Family-School Compact, Parent Involvement Plan and Family Engagement planning.
