Our Community

Andover is a growing suburban community of over 32,000 residents located north of the Minneapolis‐St. Paul metropolitan area. The citizens of Andover enjoy recreational opportunity, quiet neighborhoods, civic involvement and fiscal and environmental steward-ship. Andover HS is one of five comprehensive high schools in the Anoka‐Hennepin school district. The district also has six middle schools and twenty‐four elementary schools, as well as several alternative pro-grams. Anoka Hennepin school district is comprised of 13 north-metro suburban communities; it is the larg-est district in Minnesota with a total enrollment of ap-proximately 38,000 students.

Academics

The curriculum at Andover HS provides rigorous coursework providing a strong foundation for college and careers. Course offerings include courses of study for college-bound students, as well as for stu-dents planning to enter technical colleges, the military, or other employment. A variety of electives provide students with the opportunity to explore areas of interest. Honors, Advanced Placement and Dual Credit courses are offered in most academic disciplines. Andover HS students regularly compete at state level academic competitions in science, math, speech, debate, and HOSA.

Athletics and Activities

From the beginning, the Andover Huskies have been dominant in many athletic endeavors.

Offering opportunities for students to participate in 29 formal boys and girls varsity sports, we are a dominant force in the Northwest Suburban Conference. Our teams consistently compete for section titles and we have enjoyed a growing number of teams and individuals claim state championships since the school opened in 2002. Andover students also participate in adapted sports through the award-winning Anoka-Hennepin School District adapted sports teams.

Andover offers over 50 different informal clubs and organizations for students as well. These activities provide the opportunity for all students to explore their interests and passions.

Fine Arts and Technical Education

Andover HS boasts award winning programs in music, art, theatre, and technical education. Our music programs score at the highest level at region and state competitions, and our students are con-sistently selected for All-State band, choir and orchestra. Student artwork, photography, and wood-working projects are recognized as some of the best in the state and have won awards at the MN State Fair and displayed at the MN College of Art and Design. Our theatre productions are of the highest quality and have earned many Spotlight Awards from the Hennepin Theatre Trust. Our speech and debate programs are highly competitive and boast national qualifiers.

Athletics

The Andover Huskies enjoy great success in the athletic arena. We are a competitive force in the Northwest Suburban Conference and offer opportunities for students to participate in 29 boys and girls varsity sports. Andover HS students also participate in adapted sports through the award-winning District 11 Adapted Sports Teams.

Andover HS offers over 50 different student activities. These clubs and activities provide the oppor-tunity for all students to explore their interests and passions and provide service to their community.

Grading and Transcripts

• All course grades are calculated into a grade point average based on a 4.0 scale and are computed cumulatively on a trimester basis. Advanced classes are recog-nized for the purpose of graduating with honor and for computing weighted grade point average and weighted class rank.
• Weighted class rank and both unweighted and weighted GPA are published on the transcript.
• Each one-trimester course = .5 credit.
• Students can request to have a course, grade and credit removed from their tran-script based on the following criteria: The student failed a course taken at AHS and re-took the class for a passing grade or the student re-took a class they passed at AHS and earned a better grade. Students are responsible for requesting the tran-script change after completion of the course.
• The following courses have special designation on the transcript: Hon: Honors; AP: Advanced Placement: PSEO: course taken on a college campus; PLTW: Project Lead the Way; CIS: College in the schools (University of MN credit); S2S: Senior to Sophomore (St. Cloud State University credit): UMTYMP: University of Minnesota Talented Youth Math Program.
• Minnesota Bilingual Seal: Minnesota has a system to reward students for profi‐ciency in one or more languages. Students will have a notation entered on their transcript to reflect proficiency in multiple languages and college credit can be earned by students in grades 10, 11 and 12. Anoka-Hennepin students may qualify, starting with the Class of 2019.
• Grades that are documented during trimester three of 2020 reflect distance learning during the COVID-19 pandemic. Future use of these grades for academic placement, admission, acceleration or remediation is discouraged and should only be used with caution after balancing the information against student performance in other grading periods. In addition, standardized assessments that were sched-uled to be administered were cancelled due to COVID-19 as denoted by the phrase “did not test” next to the Spring, 2020 date in the College & Career Readiness sec-tion of the transcript.
