Adventures Plus summer care options
During the summer months, Adventures Plus provides additional care opportunities for elementary school students. The summer program serves students entering kindergarten up to those entering sixth grade. Students must be enrolled in an Anoka-Hennepin school for the fall in order to receive summer care.
The goal of the Adventures Plus program is to support the development of the whole child by providing age-appropriate learning experiences and opportunities.
Summer curriculum
The Adventures Plus summer program focuses on youth engagement, with curriculum centered around creativity and the arts, language and literacy, cognitive, physical, social and emotional development. Children may choose to participate in interest-based activities such as visual and performing arts, reading and writing, math and science, physical games, outdoor play as well as team building and problem-solving. Programming for incoming kindergarten students emphasizes social skill development and supports kindergarten readiness skills, such as letter and number recognition, basic concepts of print, oral language, reading comprehension skills, group participation and social interaction.
Summer registration
Adventures Plus is a popular service and child care openings fill quickly. Registration opens for currently enrolled families in mid-February. Registration opens for new families in mid-March. Check back in January for exact dates. Contracts (accepted or pending) do not carry over from season to season or year to year. All families, including waitlisted families, must register annually for any future care needs. Registrations are reviewed in the order that they are received in our online system and can take up to five business days to process. Accounts that have an overdue balance will not be processed.

Field trips
Field trips are scheduled as part of the summer child care curriculum. Adventures Plus strives to make each week exciting with on-site activities and off-site field trips. Adventures Plus contracts with the Anoka-Hennepin School District transportation companies to provide transportation to and from each field trip destination. All children are provided an Adventures Plus t-shirt to wear on all field trips for quick identification when exploring new places. Field trip costs are included in the child care fee for the summer.
Field trip schedules will not be released until after summer registration is closed. We understand that field trips are a favorite activity and that many families would prefer to align their schedules to our field trip days. However, our program’s primary focus is to provide consistent child care for working families. We are often not able to confirm trip details with community vendors in advance of registration. Sites are also not able to accommodate a large swing in enrollment numbers between non-trip days and field trip days. We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your understanding.
Adventures Plus reserves the right to cancel or change any field trip dates due to inclement weather and other unforeseen circumstances. Fees will not be refunded due to changes in the field trip.
