(4/12/24) Anoka-Hennepin Community Education hosted its first Adult Prom on Friday, April 12 at Green Haven Golf Course in Anoka. The event offered dancing, laughter, and a chance to get dressed up.

“We were in a meeting brainstorming about what kind of fun activities we can bring to the community,” said Mindy Kallenbach, adult learning programmer. “We all love to dance, so we thought, oh my gosh, let’s do a prom.”

Just as it might have looked in a high school gym, staff decorated the ballroom with balloon arches and gold stars. As guests arrived, they posed for pictures in front of the “Good vibes only” backdrop with their friends or significant others. Inside, a DJ played tunes from across the decades.

“We want to have fun with girlfriends and just live it up,” said Jennifer Sulawske and her four friends who sported sparkly clothing and disco ball cups.

Several who attended said they didn’t go to prom in high school or would have loved to go to prom with their spouse but hadn’t met them yet. The night provided a chance to create unforgettable memories.

“If you missed the fun, don’t worry,” said Kallenbach. “We plan to do it again next April.”
