Adventures Plus students get social emotional support over summer

Social emotional learning kit(6/8/22) Students in the Adventures Plus school-age child care program will be zeroing in on their social emotional skills. This week, volunteers lined up by Community Education’s Parent Involvement Office, spent several hours putting together social emotional learning kits intended to help students build life skills and support their well-being during the summer months.

Each student will be getting a kit complete with an activity book featuring journaling, coloring and discussion items, a pack of crayons, and a fidget calming tool. Adventures Plus site leaders and coordinators received training on how to use the activity books and will implement the program at all 15 summer sites.

Volunteers packing kits“Throughout the pandemic we’ve seen some students really struggle with managing their emotions and connecting with others,” said Tiffany Weeks, Adventures Plus Program Supervisor. “That’s why we’re very excited to have these new tools for students and be able to focus on important social emotional skills this summer.”

Secondary students at some of Anoka-Hennepin’s alternative schools will also be getting growth mindset kits that are geared towards teens. All of the the kits were made possible due to a generous donation from community partners: Allina Health, the Ham Lake Chamber, the Ramsey Lions and M Fairview Andover.
