National Community Education Day
(11/14/24) Happy National Community Education Day! Observed annually on the second Thursday of November, it’s a day to celebrate ALL that is COMMUNITY ED– and it’s A LOT! Anoka-Hennepin Community Ed employs over 1,500 people in a given year and reaches more than half a million others through classes, services, programs, outreach activities, recreation and athletics.

FUN FACTS
Last year, more than 7,000 elementary and PreK students participated in youth classes and activities! That number was 3,246 for middle school enrichment and 2,859 for middle school athletics.
This year, Anoka-Hennepin Preschool is serving 1,056 students in 30 preschool classrooms across the district.
Community Education coordinates recreation and athletic leagues for adults, including volleyball, basketball and softball. Last year, 1,440 people participated!
Metro North Adult Basic Education collected more student contact hours last year, than any other year in its history! Learners came from 113 different countries and spoke 77 different languages.
Community Education offers a wide range of aquatic opportunities for all ages at the Roosevelt Community Pool in Blaine. Last year, there were 3,500 participants!
Parent Involvement coordinates approximately 10,000 active volunteers per year who complete 200,000 hours of service to Anoka-Hennepin students and families.
Early Childhood Screening is a check of how a child is growing, developing, and learning. Last year, more than 2,400 children were screened through the program.
Last year, 9,300 high school students in Youth Service delivered over 65,000 hours of community service supporting mental health, examining affordable housing, and deepening environmental sustainability.
Adult Learning served 4,686 participants last year! The program hosted almost 6,500 people during various open gyms — 2,000 more than the previous year! They also offered 13 ‘Intro to Pickleball’ classes throughout the year!
