Acting II Syllabus
In Acting II students will:
1. Analyze the physical, emotional, and social dimensions of characters found in
dramatic texts:
· acquire knowledge of character development
· develop understanding of various types of characters
· gain deeper understanding of human experience through performance
2. Create and sustain characters in an ensemble that communicate with audiences:
· adapt verbal and nonverbal expression and visual images to a specific purpose
· analyze, entertain, inform, and share ideas
· comprehend, interpret, evaluate, analyze, and appreciate texts
· transfer knowledge gained from reading to performing
3. Compare and demonstrate various classical and contemporary techniques:
· use various acting techniques for different audiences and purposes
· explore and perform classical text (e.g. Shakespearean, Greek, Commedia dell’Arte)
· explore and perform post-modern dramatic text
4. Create artistic interpretations through performance:
· exercise critical and creative communication about process
· listen and view reflectively and critically
· conceptualize and implement new methods of performance
5. Demonstrate understanding of the personal, social, cultural, and historical
contexts of theatre arts:
· ask questions, examine problems, and consider ideas that focus on issues and interests
· investigate and share multiple perspectives of various texts
· identify and research cultural, historical, and symbolic clues in dramatic texts
· share findings through performance to connect to audience
Grading Policy:
Informal Performances 45%
Formal Performances 40%
Written work 15%
Students are responsible for turning work in/performing on the assigned due date or making arrangements with me prior to the deadline. Late work turned in/performed before the deadline will be scored one letter grade lower. After the deadline, the score will be reduced by 50%.
Grading modifications may be made for students with IEP or 504 plans.
