(11/22/2023) The Andover High School football team saw its historic season come to an end in the state semifinals. The Huskies and Chanhassen High School combined for 100 points in a back-and-forth affair at U.S. Bank Stadium on Nov. 18 that would need overtime to decide a winner.

Chanhassen earned a 54-46 overtime win over Andover to advance to the state championship. 

Andover finished the season with a record of 10-2, and its longest playoff run in school history ended in the state semifinals. This marked Andover’s seventh state tournament appearance in school history, with the last trip coming in 2021.

Andover and Chanhassen combined for nearly 1,000 yards of total offense, putting on an offensive show in front of a large crowd. 

The Huskies were led by senior quarterback Chase Pemberton, who finished the game with five total touchdowns, throwing for 250 yards and three scores while adding two rushing touchdowns on 63 yards. 

Senior running back D’Mario Davenport rushed for 122 yards and a touchdown while also catching three passes for 73 yards and a touchdown. Junior wide receiver Cameron Begalle hauled in 10 passes for 113 yards and a touchdown, while senior wide receiver/defensive back Luke Dehnicke caught three passes for 41 yards and a touchdown. Dehnicke added six tackles.

In one of the biggest plays of the game, senior kicker Carter Eklund helped send the game into overtime with a 33-yard field goal to tie the game at 46 with 1:42 to play. The clutch field goal was just his fifth attempt on the year. Eklund was 3 of 5 on the season on field goal attempts and finished the year making 64 out of 65 extra-point attempts.

The Storm converted a touchdown and two-point conversion in overtime and held the Huskies out of the endzone in their overtime possession to advance to the state final.
