    Problem 1:

    Bella brings in 760 Tootsie Roll Midgees to share with her friends at camp.  Her friends are given 16 Midgees each. How many friends will get 16 candies? How many candies will be left over?

    Rather than going straight to long division, ask your child what the problem is asking.  What do they know about the problem and what do they need to find out?  We know how many pieces of candy are in the bag and we know how many pieces each child gets.  We DON'T know how many children will get the candy.  Additional prompts could be: "Could we change the numbers or maybe just work with part of 760?" "How many times do you THINK 16 would go into 760? How many 16s fit into 600? How many more candies need to be distributed?"
