International Baccalaureate Music is a rigorous course of study with high standards and expectations. Students electing this course of study will focus on performance (both solo and in a group), music history, music theory, analysis, composition, and listening.
Standard Level students must take the IB Listening Paper (examination) where they will listen to recorded examples of music and give in depth analysis, complete a musical investigation comparing music of two distinct genres, as well as complete one of the following:
A) A 20 minute solo performance recording
B) A 15 - 30 minute group performance recording
C) 2 original contrasting compositions with recordings and a written statement.
High Level students must take the IB Listening Paper (examination) where they will listen to recorded examples of music and give in depth analysis, complete a musical investigation comparing music of two distinct genres, as well as complete all of the following:
A) A 20 minute solo performance recording
B) 3 original contrasting compositions (5 - 15 minutes total) with recordings and a written statement.
All IB students will be expected to complete additional work as part of their performance group.
