Ramsey Elementary School holds first ‘Eagle Fest’ to recognize student-leaders
(10/31/19) Over the past year, staff at Ramsey Elementary School have been pondering ways to recognize students.
“We’ve wanted to highlight all the great things our kids are doing, and do it in a fun way that engages the school community,” said Principal Dr. Amy Reed.
What they settled on, Reed said, is an all-school assembly called Eagle Fest. The first one was held Oct. 30, and the school will hold one each month during the school year. See photos from the first event.
“We’re seeing really great things here in the area of student leadership,” Reed said. “These events will allow us to celebrate those kids.”
During the first Eagle Fest, students filled the north gym, and sat in classes by grade-level, and helped recognize more than 64 student-leaders — one boy and one girl from each class, for both the months of September and October, plus 12 third grade essay winners. Ramsey Mayor John LeTourneau helped recognize the essay winners, who wrote about what makes Ramsey a good school, and how they can be a good leader in the community.
In addition, parents and guardians of those students who earned recognition were invited to the school to be part of the event — a surprise for the students involved.
Reed said the school has a celebration squad made of staff at the school who will help organize the monthly Eagle Fests.
“We’re excited about this,” Reed said.
