Mental health: Understanding school and community resources is focus of March 2 parent and community event
(02/14/20) Join parents and guardians from the Anoka-Hennepin Schools community for an evening of information and resources to support the mental health needs of students today. A Parent Engage 360 informational event, titled Mental Health: Understanding school and community resources, is set for Monday, March 2 at 7 p.m. at the Anoka-Hennepin Educational Service Center, 2727 N Ferry St., Anoka. The event is free and open to the public.
Parent Engage 360 events aim to provide resources to parents and guardians to support their students and others in the community. Sue Abderholden, a nationally-recognized mental health advocate will serve as the featured speaker. As Executive Director of the National Alliance of Mental Illness (NAMI) of Minnesota, Abderholden will highlight factors that are contributing to the mental health crisis for youth, as well as the community’s role in supporting youth experiencing mental illness.
The one-hour session will begin with Dr. Nita Kumar, Anoka-Hennepin mental health consultant, giving an overview of school-based programs and how they work in partnership with community resources. Following the formal presentations, attendees will be able to visit resource tables and ask individual questions directly to mental health support professionals.
In addition to the Anoka-Hennepin Schools, Parent Engage 360: Mental health: Understanding school and community resources, is co-sponsored by the The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) of Minnesota, Anoka-Hennepin Educational Foundation, The North Metro Roundtable, Mental Wellness Campaign of Anoka County, Headway, People Incorporated, Change to Chill and Allina Health.
