Oak View Middle School honors Memorial Day with special assembly
(05/22/2020) Students at Oak View Middle School (OVMS) in Andover develop an appreciation and understanding of the meaning of Memorial Day through a Memorial Day Assembly. The entertaining and educational event is a 24 year school tradition that was presented virtually to the entire school community. It will also be shared on the district Facebook page, as a premiere, at 1 p.m. on Monday.
The OVMS Memorial Day Assembly features a history of why our nation celebrates Memorial Day and includes patriotic musical selections from the 8th grade orchestra and 8th grade band along with the Pride Singers. The keynote address was delivered by Anoka County Deputy Cory Bowker, a military veteran who also serves OVMS and other schools in Andover as a school liaison officer. Patriotic readings of “The Gettysburg Address ” and “In Flanders Field” were included in the program along with an explanation and performance of “Taps”. Student performances were featured throughout.
