Anoka-Hennepin high school graduation rates continue to outperform state average for the 2024 school year

(05/07/2025) Graduation rates for students in the Anoka-Hennepin School District continued to outpace state averages by 1.4% for 2024, graduating 85.6% of all seniors in four years. 

Outpacing the state: Anoka-Hennepin students continue to perform above the record-high state graduation average overall and in all but two of the 15 measured student groups. Student demographics in the Anoka-Hennepin School District closely mirror averages across the state of Minnesota.

By the numbers: The 2024 overall district 4-year graduation rate decreased 1.1% from last year, however, the 7-year graduation rate was 93.0%, 0.7% higher than last year, resulting in the highest 7-year rate in district recorded history. 

  • The 2024 combined 4-year graduation rate for the five traditional high schools - Andover, Anoka, Blaine, Champlin Park and Coon Rapids -  is 91.5%.

  • American Indian students and those receiving special education increased their 4-year graduation rate by over 5%, and Hispanic students demonstrated an increase of more than 3%.

  • Blaine High School increased 4-year graduation rates for all 15 student groups and Champlin Park increased 4-year graduation rates for 13 of 15 student groups, with the other 2 demonstrated rates similar to last year.  Sandburg Regional High School increased 4-year graduation rates for 12 out of 15 student groups compared to last year.

  • Blaine had 13 student groups that were above 90% 4-year graduation rates with the other two above 80% (students receiving special education services and those experiencing housing instability).  Andover and Champlin Park had 10 student groups above 90% 4-year graduation rates, as well.

  • The district-wide 4-year dropout rate was 2.6%, with four of the five traditional high schools at less than 2%.


Why it matters: Graduation rates are one of the five main data points used to measure student performance in the Minnesota’s Comprehensive Achievement and Civil Readiness (CACR) monitoring system formerly known as  World's Best Workforce.This system developed by the Minnesota Department of Education ensures schools enhance student achievement through teaching and learning support. Other key performance indicators include kindergarten readiness, reducing performance gaps between student groups, and college and career readiness.

Narrowing achievement gaps: The 2024 results included a 78.5% graduation rate for Black students, a number that outpaces the state rate by 4.6%.

  • Blaine High School led the district with 92.2% of Black students graduating in four years, an increase of 0.8% over last year and a 2.9% gap from their White student group. 

  • Four of Anoka-Hennepin’s five traditional high schools have a Hispanic-White graduation gap of less than 5%, with the fifth at 6%.

  • Three of Anoka-Hennepin’s five traditional high schools have a Black-White graduation gap less than 3%, with the other two approximately 10% or less.  Sandburg Regional High School Black students demonstrated a 21.3% higher 4-year graduation rate than White students.

 

Four of the five traditional high schools in Anoka-Hennepin had at least two student groups of color graduate at rates at or above 90%. Three of the five traditional high schools (Andover, Blaine, and Coon Rapids) had two student groups of color (multi-racial and Asian students) graduate at higher rates than White students.
