Why I love teaching my IB course:
It affords my students the ability to critically engage with the language of both literature and media. Every time I teach, I learn something new from my students and as a result, look at the world in a new way. The best job in the world!!

What I hear from past graduates who took my course:
This course prepared them for the rigors of college and that the hard work is worth it!

The best academic piece of advice to students:
Get into the content, be motivated not only by the grade, but by the search for meaning.

Why I love teaching my IB course: Being a part of IB has changed my life irrevocably for the better. The course content makes me examine the world in a way that helps me help make it better. I also love the feel of being a part of a school family. Students and I get close and stay in contact after they graduate—it’s a love fest of learning.

What I hear from past graduates who took my course: I get a version of this sentence emailed/Facebook messaged to me at least once a month from a former student: “Everyone else in my [insert college class here] is freaking out. I’m the only one who knows how to study and how to write. THANK YOU, IB!”

The best academic piece of advice to students: Don't procrastinate. It's all totally doable if you don't.

Favorite thing to do besides teaching IB classes: I love to read, knit, be outside, and play with my family/kids. I also love lunch time with my fellow English teachers—it’s an awesome nerd fest.

    Academic Degrees/Location:
B.A. English Education--St. Olaf College, Northfield, MN
    M.S.T English Education--University of Wisconsin--Eau Claire
Masters of Divinity--Luther Seminary, St. Paul, MN

Why I love teaching my IB course: I just love seeing students succeed and be creative thinkers!

What I hear from past graduates who took my course: Students claim two major things:
    1. They learned to write well after being in IB for two years.
    2. They learned to be great participations in classroom discussion.

And while they may not realize it, IB students have learned to become good, creative thinkers!

I argue that these are the basics of the collegiate experience. If you can learn to do these things well before you leave high school, you will be successful in college.

The best academic piece of advice to students: Stick with the challenges! No one ever said it was going to be easy, they just said it was going to be worth it!

Favorite thing to do besides teaching IB classes:
Play with my kids, hang out with my husband, watch movies, exercise in any way I can.
