(1) Who is my building phone contact?
Click here for a list of current building contacts...(2) What is a Phantom Number? What am I supposed to do with it?
A phantom number is assigned to teaching staff who aren't assigned a physical phone. In the elementary buildings, for example, the physical phone is assigned to the physical classroom and the teacher in that room is assigned what we call a "phantom" number.
Staff with phantom numbers have complete control over when and where that number actually rings at a physical phone. Click here for phantom instructions. Staff must keep in mind that the District Technology Acceptable Use Policy and Guidelines specifically state that phantom numbers should not be programmed to ring in a classroom during student contact times.(3) Why doesn't the light on my phone blink when I have voice mail messages?
Not everyone in the district can have a light indicate when voice mail messages arrive. A lot of factors are in place:
- Only one message waiting lamp (MWL - these are also fondly called the blinky lights) per phone. So - if a staff member is already assigned to that physical phone, then another staff member can't also have a light there.
- If a staff member is assigned a physical phone in the office, the MWL lights THAT phone and not the one in the classroom for that user. Only one light is assigned per staff member.
- Is it the beginning of the school year? At the beginning of the school year through the end of October, Comm Tech staff are making sure that all new staff have phones and accounts. Since so many staff change classrooms from year to year, the MWLs aren't determined until Comm Tech receives a list of staff and room numbers from the building. 48 buildings - lots of phones and staff members - it usually takes us until at least mid-October to change all the MWL locations to reflect staff moves. During that time, staff are asked to check voice mail daily to ensure they receive important messages and are able to respond in a timely fashion. When we have set the MWL locations, all building staff are notified and should check the list sent to determine where their light is (or isn't).
- Is your light not working after your building has been notified that the MWLs have been set? If so, verify on the staff list that your lamp is where you think it is. If so, contact your building phone system contact , who will initiate a repair ticket to take care of the problem.
