Medica selected as health insurance provider beginning Sept. 1, 2024

(03/22/2024) For the 2024-25 school year, Anoka-Hennepin Health Insurance benefits will be moving from UnitedHealthcare to Medica. Open enrollment will run from May 28 through June 12 with the effective date of Sept. 1, 2024.

Due to the change in the health insurance provider, all insurance-eligible employees will be required to log in to the online enrollment system Worklife and make an election for health coverage. Current health insurance selections will not roll into the new insurance year.

The Anoka-Hennepin Schools insurance department is currently working with Medica to prepare open enrollment materials, ensuring a smooth transition to the new provider. Detailed information about new plans and rates will be made available to employees in multiple formats, including open enrollment materials and virtual and in-person meetings. Stay tuned to In the Know and the Staff Intranet for additional information in the weeks leading up to May 28.

Background

At a School Board meeting on Feb. 26, Medica was approved for the Anoka-Hennepin self-funded health plan, which will go into effect Sept. 1, 2024. The decision to change providers was based on the results of a competitive bid process as required by state law. By statute, the school district must seek bids for third-party administrative services every two years.
