Former teacher and coach, Jon Hersch, has passed away

(12/08/2020) Jon Hersch, a former English teacher and football and track and field coach at Blaine and Champlin Park high schools, has passed away. He was 74 years old.


The family will hold a small, private service, and a celebration of Jon’s life will be held at a later date.


Jon received a teaching position with Anoka-Hennepin in 1971 where he taught English and served as a football coach and head track and field coach at Blaine High School for 14 years. He then moved to Champlin Park High School where he taught and coached for another 10 years. In 2008, Jon was inducted into the Minnesota State Track and Field Coaches Hall of Fame.


Jon was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife Gretchen; daughters Jennifer (Andrew) Matysik and Sarah Helgeson; grandchildren Joey, Maria, Will and Sydney Matysik, and Tait and Ingrid Helgeson; siblings Geri (Don) Isaacson, Bobbi (John) Augustine, James (Candy) Hersch, and many more loving family members and friends.
