Welcome to our Classroom Website
This will be my second year teaching Reading Foundations at Coon Rapids High School. I have been teaching in the school district since 2003, mostly as a special education teacher. Prior to teaching, I attended college at St. Benedict's/St. John's where I earned my BA in Psychology. I then went on to continue school at the University of Minnesota where I worked toward my Master's degree in Special Education. While teaching special education I decided to go back one more time for my K-12 Reading License and am now focused on teaching reading here at CRHS. Reading is critical as it impacts other subject areas that students participate in and it helps your mind grow!
When I am not teaching I enjoy getting outdoors to walk, hike, and play disc golf. I enjoy reading biographies, autobiographies, and memoirs ... especially stories of perseverance! I also love to laugh, so working with teens is perfect! :)
This summer was quite eventful for me ... I got married, moved, and took a trip through the Canadian Rockies! Student schedules likely state that their reading teacher is Ms. McDougall, but my name is now Mrs. Weisz (rhymes with "nice").
I look forward to meeting each of my new students this year and catching up with students I may have had last year!

Classroom Cell Phone Policy
Cell phones can be a wonderful way to access information and to communicate with one another. However, cell phones can be very disruptive to student learning and I ask that they be put away with sound off during classroom instruction, independent reading, and work time. If students finish their reading assignments before the class period is over, they are allowed to access phones as long as they are silenced and not disrupting others. If students are using phones before they are done with assignments they will given a reminder of my expectations. If phone use continues to be an issue after the reminder I will conference with the student and contact parents. Ongoing phone issues will be reported to administration.
