Kindness takes all of us: winners of annual kindness poster contest announced
(11/14/2024) As part of October’s National Bullying Prevention campaign, Anoka-Hennepin held its 21st annual kindness poster contest.
About the contest: This year’s theme was Kindness Takes All of Us. Students were encouraged to create a poster with that message in mind and delivered a variety of themes to spread kindness in their schools. Nearly 150 posters representing each school’s winning submissions advanced to the final balloting at the ESC on Nov. 5. Voters were asked to select the best poster for each grade level and were able to submit their votes electronically.
Meet the winners and view the posters:
- Lillian Raschke, kindergarten, Sunrise Elementary.
- Gabe Zuk, first grade, McKinley Elementary.
- Ollie Miller, second grade, Sunrise Elementary.
- Mayvis Yang, third grade, McKinley Elementary.
- Addison Bartley, fourth grade, Dayton Elementary.
- Sabreen Zeinu, fifth grade, Sunrise Elementary.
- Madeline Parrott, sixth grade, Anoka Middle School for the Arts.
- Ada Hammond, seventh grade, Northdale Middle School.
- Fatima Muhamed, eighth grade, Northdale Middle School.
- Katie Tran, ninth grade, Andover High School.
The big picture: The annual kindness poster contest helps create a safe and welcoming environment for students by promoting kindness and anti-bullying. The contest promotes kindness as a positive call to action to counteract the negative impact of bullying, and Anoka-Hennepin’s core values of respect, responsibility, appreciation of diversity, integrity, and compassion are the basis of kindness.
What’s next: These students will be recognized at the Jan. 27 School Board meeting and will receive a Kindle tablet from the Horace Mann Company. Winning posters will also be displayed on the district website and printed for use in school buildings across the district.
