Welcome to Mrs. Killian's classroom website

The anticipation of beginning the 2017-2018 school year is in full swing. This marks my 11th year teaching at CRMS and I am blessed to once again teach 7th grade Advanced ELA and A.V.I.D. My journey to the world of teaching began immediately after graduating from Irondale High School in New Brighton, MN in the year 2000. Bethel University was "home" for the next four years, and that is where I obtained my undergraduate degree in Elementary Education with an emphasis in Communication Arts. Shortly after graduation, I married my husband, Jeff. Our family began growing right away. On August 2, 2005, we welcomed our first daughter into this world. Her name is Zoey and she is now 12 years old! This year, she will be entering the world of middle school as a 6th grader in the Mounds View School District. My second daughter, Maya, made her debut on August 1, 2007 – the same day the 35W bridge spanning the Mississippi River heading into Minneapolis crumbled into the river. Maya is 10 and going into the fourth grade.

When I am not in the classroom, I am spending time with my family. We’ll do just about anything that sounds like a good time. This past summer we enjoyed camping in our travel trailer, rollerblading, biking, reading, swimming and just relaxing. We have two dogs and a cat that keep us company in our home.

Coon Rapids Middle School was where I landed my first teaching job, and I have loved this community ever since. I am fortunate to hold a position where I enjoy coming to work each and every day. One of the most integral pieces to each child’s education is the link between school and home. WE must work together for the sake of your child. Believe me when I tell you that I want each child to be successful. There may be times when your child is challenged beyond his/her level. Your child may feel overwhelmed or anxious about upcoming assignments. New information may be introduced that your child simply doesn’t understand. Let’s work together to help your child. Please communicate with me as often as you would like. I am easiest to reach via email, but phone calls work as well. If necessary, we can schedule a time to meet before or after school.

Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to work with your child. I am excited to watch them grow as a reader and develop stronger skills as a writer.
