2014-15 Competition Summaries
Congratulations to Heather Burt, Dani Sarette, MaKayla Rappe, Andrew Bialon, and Tate Andrews who qualified for state in all 3 of their events. A special congratulation goes out to Andrew Bialon who placed 1st in two of his three events. Andrew also had the district conference’s highest comprehensive exam score out of the 585 DECA students that attended the competition.
These students will be competing in March at the DECA Minnesota State Career Development conference, for the right to represent Minnesota DECA at the International Career Development Conference this April in Orlando, Florida.

On March 8, 9, and 10 at the DECA State Career Development Conference in Minneapolis, Coon Rapids DECA had a tremendous showing. Some of the highlights of the State DECA Conference included Alayna Baetke finishing 10th in her Business to Business sales demonstration. A 6th and 7th place finish, respectively, for Heather Burt and Meghan Wellner in Hospitality and Tourism Professional Selling. 5th place finishes for Ellis Syke in Personal Financial Literacy, and Raffee Wright in Professional Selling. Earning 3rd place finishes were Ellis Syke in Financial Consulting and Dylan Plohasz-Pouliot in Food Marketing. Libby Deranleau earned a 2nd place finish in Professional Selling. And Andrew Bialon took home two 1st place finishes in Professional Selling and Principles of Business Administration. Overall, Coon Rapids DECA had 24 state finalists in their individual or team events.
Coon Rapids also had four chapter projects in the areas of Learn and Earn, Community Service, Marketing Plan, and Gold Chapter Project all earning top 10 finishes at the state conference.
Other highlights of the conference were when Libby Deranleau and Hayley Severson were named Coon Rapids High School’s Outstanding DECA Members of the Year. Tina McManus, Hayley Severson, Libby Deranleau, Gabe Hill, and Alayna Baetke all earned the Minnesota DECA Speakers Bureau Award, for their work this year in speaking in promotion of business and marketing education.
Advisor Blake Bodenburg was honored to be awarded with the Minnesota Secondary DECA Outstanding Service Award and was named one of six outstanding DECA advisors for the state of Minnesota.

Coon Rapids sent seven of our DECA members to compete at the International DECA Career Development Conference in Orlando, Florida. This four day competition had over 18,000 DECA members from around the world in attendance. Libby Deranleau, Dylan Plohasz-Pouliot, Gabe Hill, Emerson Badio, Andrew Bialon, Ellis Syke and Alayna Baetke all did a fantastic job at the conference. Mr. Bodenburg would like to congratulate Libby, Dylan, Gabe, Emerson, Andrew, Ellis, and Alayna for their tremendous efforts at the ICDC. He would also like to congratulate every DECA member at Coon Rapids High School for a wonderful year of competition. Good job DECA!
