2013-14 District Career Development Conference
On Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, members of Coon Rapids DECA
competed at the District 4 Career Development Conference in Plymouth.
Among the 65 members that attended, there were 21 students qualified for state
in at least two events! Some of the
highlights at the conference included and 73 top ten finishes and 20 top three
finishers for Coon Rapids High School. A special congratulation goes out
to Elise Weimholt who placed 1st in two of her three events, and Heather
Burt who qualified for state in all 3 of her events.

On March 2, 3, and 4 at the
DECA State Career Development Conference in Minneapolis, Coon Rapids DECA had an
excellent showing. Some of the highlights of the State DECA Conference included
10th place finishes for Gina
Palmquist and Maddy Artmann in Finance
Operations, Dani Frazee in Quick Serve Restaurant Management, and Katie Kiecker
in Human Resource Management; An 8th place finish for Ashley Ayers in Hospitality
and Tourism Professional Selling; 7th place finishes for Elsie Weimholt and Hayley
Severson in Marketing Communications, and Matt Samit and Adam Wales in Sports
and Entertainment Marketing: a 5th place finish for Katie Kiecker in Hard Lines
Sales: a 3rd place finish for Jacob LaBine in Principles of
Hospitality and Tourism; and a 1st place finish for Adam Wales in business
to business selling; Overall, Coon Rapids DECA had 27 state finalists in their
individual or team events.
Coon Rapids also had five
chapter projects in the areas of Learn and Earn, Creative Marketing, Community
Service, Entrepreneurship Promotion Plan, and Gold Chapter Project all earned
top 10 finishes at the state conference.
Other highlights of the
conference were when Gina Palmquist and Katie Kiecker were named Coon Rapids
High School’s Outstanding DECA Members of the Year. Dylan Brovick, Jeremy Becker, Kaylie Brooks,
and Adam Wales all earned the Minnesota DECA Speaker Bureau Award, for their
work this year in speaking in promotion of business and marketing education.
In addition to all the top
finishes, recognitions, and awards Jacob LaBine and the Gold Chapter Project
team of Ashley Ayers, Katie Kiecker and Gabe Hill all qualified to compete this
spring at the International Career Development Competition in Atlanta, Georgia. At this conference they will be competing with
over 17,000 other marketing competitors from around the world in an
extremely competitive international field.

sent four of our DECA members to compete at the International DECA Career
Development Conference in Atlanta, Georgia.
This four day competition had over 17,000 DECA members from around the
world in attendance. Ashley Ayers, Jacob
LaBine, Gabe Hill and Katie Kiecker all did a fantastic job at the
conference. Mr. Bodenburg would like to
congratulate Ashley, Jacob, Gabe, and Katie for their tremendous efforts at the
ICDC. He would also like to
congratulate every DECA member at Coon Rapids High School for a wonderful year
of competition. Good job DECA!
