2011-12 District Career Development Conference  

On last Sunday and Monday, members of Coon Rapids DECA competed at the District 4 Career Development Conference in Plymouth.  Among the 49 members that attended, there were 29 students qualified for state!  Some of the highlights at the conference included 10 top three finishers and 46 top ten finishes.  A special congratulation goes out to freshman Megan Wellner, sophomores Rebecca Daml, Tristen Blankenship, Alex Simoni, and Katie Kiecker, Junior Stephanie Weimholt, and Seniors Steven Clark, Julia Wittrock, Abby Boyce, Josh Eichacker, and Derek Ernst who each qualified for state in 2 events.
 
All the DECA members who attended should be applauded for their excellent showing. DECA would like to thank all of those teachers who helped us prepare for our district competition; you made a big difference

On March 4, 5, and 6 at the DECA State Career Development Conference in Minneapolis, Coon Rapids DECA had an excellent showing. Some of the highlights of the State DECA Conference included a 7th place finish for the Gold Chapter project team; A 5th place finish for the Marketing Plan Team; a 2nd place finish for Abby Boyce in Hospitality and Tourism; a 2nd place finish for Julia Wittrock in professional sales; Overall, Coon Rapids DECA had 13 state finalists in their individual or team events.

 

Two highlights of the conference were when Steven Clark and Julia Wittrock were named Coon Rapids High School’s Outstanding DECA Members of the Year. Another highlight was when Steven Clark, Derrick Ernst, and Julia Wittrock were awarded the Minnesota DECA’s Speakers Bureau Award, for their numerous presentations promoting marketing education and DECA in our school and community. 

 

In addition to all the top finishes, recognitions, and awards Julia Wittrock, Abby Boyce, and the Gold Chapter Project team all qualified to compete this spring at the International Career Development Competition in Salt Lake City Utah.  At this conference they will be competing with over 14,000 other marketing competitors from around the world in an extremely competitive international field. 

 

Last but not least, at the same conference, our Coon Rapids DECA Advisor, Mr. Bodenburg was named as Minnesota’s Marketing Teacher of the Year. Mr. Bodenburg would like to say thank-you to all the DECA members that competed in the state conference; you represented Coon Rapids and yourselves with dignity and class.  Congratulations to all!

Coon Rapids sent five DECA members to compete at the International DECA Career Development Conference in Salt Lake City, Utah, California.  This competition had over 14,000 DECA members from around the world in attendance.  Abby Boyce, Collin Watke, Ryan DeMaio, Collin Magnuson, and Julia Wittrock all did a fantastic job in their competition.  Some highlights of the competition were when Julia Wittrock placed Top Ten in the world with her Professional Selling test score. Julia then followed that up by placing third in the world for her professional selling event.  Julia added to her accomplishments, by receiving a $1,000 National DECA scholarship from NAPA Auto Parts.   Mr. Bodenburg would like to congratulate Julia, Collin, Ryan, Abby and Collin for their efforts at the conference, and congratulate every DECA member for a wonderful year of competition.   Good Job DECA!
